Author and Developer of Allied Health Educational Materials:

Currently I am owner of a computer software development company that specializes in the writing, development, marketing, and presentation of health care related educational materials. I have authored a wide variety of educational media including curriculum, instructor materials, courseware, and software. In addition, I have provided presentations and training sessions to health care educators nationwide related to allied health curriculum, multimedia, and technology training.

Education/Instructor:

My teaching experience began in 1980 and spans three states. I began as a in-service educator in 1980 and have since taught a variety of programs full and part-time. These include: Registered Nursing, Practical Nursing, Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting, Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aid, Health Occupations, AFAA Certified Aerobics, Childbirth Education Classes, First Aide, and CPR. In addition, I have taught patient education programs including diabetes management, breast self-exam, and diet and weight control. Currently, I do adjunct clinical instruction for J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College Registered Nursing Program.

Nursing:

I served as a Lieutenant in the United States Public Health Service in the Indian Health Division from June 1979-August 1981. This included Registered Charge Nurse duties on medical-surgical floor and intensive care unit. My nursing experience also includes charge nurse on pediatrics and obstetrics from 1981-1983. In addition, I have worked as a flexi and float nurse for long-term care facilities and acute care hospitals through out my teaching career.

Curriculum and Program Development:

Curriculum and Program Development: During my tenure at Taylor County Technical Center, I was responsible for the curriculum writing and development of programs such as Community Developmentally Disabled Technician, Applied Medical Science, and Home Health Aide. These courses were coordinated through West Virginia University, the County Board of Education, and the Department of Health and Human Services, respectively. In addition, at Chesterfield Technical Center, I authored the curriculum for the Dental Assistant Program. Also, I assisted with the development of curriculum and taught an Acute Care Nursing Assistant Course for Columbia/HCA through their educational resources department. Most recently as a consultant, I co-authored a Medical Assistant curriculum guide and performed a research study for a Multi-skilled Education. This research lead to the development of a Multi-skill Module series for which I am series editor and co-author.
